Rio de Janeiro Philharmonic Orchestra

Filed under: Ask Us - February 20th, 2006

Your Question

I’ve been trying to find a website for the Rio de Janeiro Philharmonic Orchestra. Do they have one? How many concerts are they playing this year and what are their programs? Who is the conductor? I’m very interested in some recent history about the orchestra. News articles, etc.

Our Reply

Yes, the Rio de Janeiro Philharmonic Orchestra does have a website (http://www.filarmonica-rio.com.br). Unfortunately, however, it’s all in Portuguese and we weren’t able to find an English version of their website.

The conductors name is Florentino Dias. He has great experience in conducting orchestras as he has been performing since 1962. He has received his masters in conducting and has performed well over 150 concerts in and near Rio de Janeiro alone.

By clicking on Assista on the left hand side of the web page you will be able to watch a short clip of the city of Rio as well as a quick glimpse of the orchestra. If you click on ouça which is also located on the left side of the web page, there are two songs performed by the orchestra available for download. Unfortunately we couldn’t find any information regarding their concert dates and their program because their site has not yet been updated for the year of 2006.

For anyone else who maybe having a difficult time finding a particular Symphony or Orchestra, we found the above Orchestra though Orcheseek, a global portal of Symphony Orchestras. (http://orcheseek.fc2web.com)
