The São Paulo Zoo was established in 1958, and since opening day it has been visited by more than 70 million people. The Zoo is very big, it covers more than 200 acres (82 hectares) and is home to approximately 3200 animals. Much of the Zoo consists of untouched Atlantic Forest, allowing many of the animals to live in their natural habitat. There is even a lake located inside the Zoo, making a home for the many bird species.

The Zoo is so big that it offers its own safari! The Zoo Safari is certainly something you can't miss. On the Safari you are inside a car that takes you on a 2.5 mile (4 km) trip through the Atlantic Forest. The Safari allows you to see animals such as tigers, giraffes, lions, bears, and zebras - without cages separating you from the animals. During the Safari you may even be able to feed some of the animals along the way.
In the main part of the São Paulo Zoo there are many shops and services offered. You will find ice cream stores, restaurants, and a photo service. The photo service is offered in case you don't have or don't want to bring your own camera. The photo service allows you to borrow one of their's free of charge. There is even a developing studio on-site allowing you to view your pictures before you leave the park.
There are many ways to get to the São Paulo Zoo. If you are driving along the two main highways of
São Paulo:
Tiete and Pinheiros, they will bring you to Miguel Stefano Street in the Agua Funda neighborhood - the Zoo is located along this street. If instead you choose to get there by the
São Paulo subway,
the São Judas and Saude Subway Station will take you as close as you are going to get to the entrance. Another option to get to São Paulo Zoo is by taking the special São Paulo Zoo buses, these buses leave from Jabaquara Subway Station.
