Most of the schools are composed of the poorer people of São Paulo who live in the favelas throughout the city. The money used to fund samba schools is mainly from ticket sales, television rights, and the members own pockets. The samba schools practice and prepare costumes many months before the competition, and sometimes you'll even see them practicing in the streets, but not dressed in costume.
During the parade the samba schools begin with large banners presenting the name of their school. Each school chooses their themes and prepares many large floats that contribute to that theme. All of the schools write their own Carnival music, which is repeatedly sang during the Carnival parade. One of the greatest parts of the parade is the drum section. Here you will see many men holding drums and other percussion instruments, keeping the harmony of the parade. The Sambodromo in São Paulo is where the
Carnival parade
is held. You're able to watch the parade carnival Brazil on TV, but there's nothing that compares to being in the Sambodromo!
