Corcovado Mountain

Christ Statue

When you think about Rio de Janeiro, what is the first thing that comes to mind? If you're like me you'll picture The Statue of Christ the Redeemer. Located at the top of Corcovado Mountain in Tijuca National Park this great statue stands 2330 feet tall, holding the city of Rio in his arms. This is one of the most famous and most visited monuments in the world.

There are two ways of getting to the top of Corcovado mountain. There is a train that starts at the bottom which costs 25 reals per person, or there are taxis that can take you to the top. Taking a taxi gives you the option of stopping at the Mirante view point, where you can see a beautiful view of Rio de Janeiro. If going by car, Mirante is a popular lookout because it is on the way to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer. This Christ Statue is visible from almost all parts of Rio.

When arriving by taxi there is a 10 real admission charge, in addition to the cost of the taxi. Once at the entrance to the Statue of Christ you have the option to take one of the three elevators, the 2 escalators, or climb the stairs to reach the Christ.
