Plateau Palace

Brasilia Political Buildings

Plateau Palace (Palácio do Planalto) is the palace of the Presidential Republic. This building is not open to public visitation. Visits only happen on special occasions or with previous permission.

If you would like to see the president of Brazil, you should come to Plateau Palace on a Friday. Every Friday when the work week ends, it's very common to see the president descend the ramp in front of the Palace while the Brazilian National Anthem is being played. Lula, the current president (2005), is always accompanied by the security guards of the Palace. They're also known as Dragoes da Independência or Independent Dragons, and they are very well known throughout Brazil.

The Plateau Palace is located at the Square of the Three Powers (Praca dos Tres Poderes).
