The National Imprensa Museum was inaugurated on May 13,1982. Its building has an area of 7300 square feet (680 square meters) filled with rare documents such as the main blueprints for the construction of Sao Sebastiao City in
Rio de Janeiro.
In addition to this rare document, another main attraction at the museum is the “Prelo Machado de Assis Machine”. This is only one of three existing impression machines in the entire world. This impression machine was made in 1833 but stopped working in the 1940's.

This museum is definitely worth visiting. You will be impressed with the rich collection, including the first printed newspaper in Brazil: A Gazeta – Rio de Janeiro. If you do not speak the official language of Brazil, Portuguese, do not worry, there are folders in many languages spread throughout the museum. The museum also has an auditory room, which has 378 seats and was opened in 1981 for the purpose of enriching the experience by showing the history of the Imprensa in Brazil.
At the time of this writing the National Imprensa Museum can be visited Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.
