The Dawn Palace
Brasilia Political Buildings
Dawn Palace (Palácio da Alvorada) is the President's official residence. It was the first building inaugurated in the
city of Brasilia
on June 1958.
This building was another project by Oscar Niemeyer, and became the symbol of modern architecture and cultural progress in Brazil. There's an interesting curiosity about the name of this building. Juscelino Kubitschek, the president of Brazil in that time was the one who gave the name to the building. When he was asked why the name would be the Palace of Dawn
, he simply said: "What is Brasilia if not a dawn for another day in Brazil?"
There is no entrance permitted into the Palace of Dawn, however the exterior can be viewed from outside.
