Brasilia was the first Capital city of the 20th century that was build for the sole purpose of being the capital. With its incomparable architectural importance in Latin America, Brasilia is known as the most ambitiously planned city throughout the world.
|
It took a mere 3 years (or 41 months) to build Brasilia, from 1957-1960. And because of its layout, similar to that of an airplane, Brasilia is divided into Asa Norte (the North Wing), and Asa Sul (the South Wing). The Northern side of the city contains the administration area, while the Southern side is where you will find the housing and residential areas, as well as the downtown core of Brasilia.
