Ubatuba
Sao Paulo Beaches
Of all São Paulo's nearby beach cities, Ubatuba is my personal favorite. This town is approximately a 4 hour drive from
São Paulo,
a drive I traveled many times during the summer months I stayed in Brazil.
The local nickname for Ubatuba is Ubachuva, chuva meaning 'rain' in Portuguese; but I must say I don't agree with this nickname at all. It rained only once during the many times I visited. In fact the rain felt quite nice, as it's warm and tropical with huge drops that soak you in minutes when standing without shelter - a nice break from the hot sun.
The town itself has a small resident population, and in the summer Ubatuba is definitely the place to be! The beaches are gorgeous, the water is crystal clear, and the local people are extremely friendly. A popular activity in Ubatuba, as with most beach communities along the north coast of São Paulo state is surfing. What's nice about Ubatuba is the surf is decent for all levels of surfers. If visiting Ubatuba to enjoy the beaches, the more popular ones are: Praia Grande (Long Beach), Praia da Maranduba (Maranduba Beach), Perequê-Açú, and Praia Vermelha (Red Beach).
The nightlife in Ubatuba is amazing. There's a club called Red Beach, which is also a very popular surfer destination by day. Here you will find 3 separate dance floors with different genres of music in each. This is the club where you'll find the largest crowds.

Sao Paulo is located in the south-eastern corner of Brazil, in the state of Sao Paulo. This great city is particularly famous for Paulista Avenue; its magnificent churches, museums, and cultural events; its soccer teams; and the São Paulo Carnival.
