Paranoá Lake
Brasilia Leisure
Paranoá Lake is located on the west side of the city of
Brasília.
The lake was created from a dam located on the Paranoá River and Gama, Torto, Bananal, Fundo and Vicente Pires streams. The lake is just over 15 square miles (40 square km), with an average depth of 70 feet (20 meters), however some parts are as deep as 140 feet (44 meters). Paranoá Lake was created to increase the air humidity and sooth the dry climate of the region.
The lake is surrounded by leisure areas and restaurants. Every day, especially the weekends, people can be seen practicing water sports such as tubing, kayaking, wake-boarding, water-skiing, and sea-dooing. Because of its “depth” Brasilienses consider the lake a perfect place to practice water sports.
