Rio is a popular city among international tourists and the population of the city increases immensely during summer months. Making the beaches in and around Rio extremely crowded - you won't be the only gringo! Gringo is a slang used in Brazil to refer to someone from another country. In many parts of Brazil it's rare to see 'gringos', but not in
Rio de Janeiro.
